Abstract:

Дисертацію присвячено театральній діяльності одного з активних учасників літературно-мистецького процесу кінця ХІХ - початку ХХ століття Гната Мартиновича Хоткевича (літературний та сценічний псевдонім - Гнат Галайда). Його театральна спадщина багата й різнобарвна: він виступає як актор, режисер, організатор театральної справи, драматург, критик та історик театру. В дисертації вперше проаналізовано рукописні драматичні твори митця. Як практик театру Г. М. Хоткевич був організатором двох унікальних колективів - першого в Україні Робітничого театру (1903-1905) в Харкові та першого Гуцульського театру (1909-1912) в Галичині. Діяльність колективів під його керівництвом розглядається як відображення ідеї цілого покоління митців про створення “народного театру”. Вперше знайшла свою оцінку критична діяльність Г. М. Хоткевича і досліджені його наукові роботи з історії театру. Дисертація є першою спробою комплексного дослідження різних складових театральної спадщини митця як цілісного явища. На основі аналізу театральної діяльності Г. М. Хоткевича з урахуванням художніх, філософсько-естетичних пошуків доби визначено його концепцію театру, яка є відображенням певного типу художньої культури України межі ХІХ-ХХ ст.

This dissertation is devoted to theatrical activities of Hnat Hotkevych (literature and stage pseudonym - Hnat Halaida), who was a scientist, writer, musician, engineer and public figure. His interests in the field of theatre were wide and various: he worked as an actor, director, creator of theatre collectives, play writer, theatre critic and historian. Dramatic plays of H. Hotkevych include more than 30 plays, dramatizations, remakes and translations, making up a special and distinctive phenomenon. The dissertation is the first work to analyse dramatical pieces by H. Hotkevych that appeared only as hand-written versions, and to recreate the history of their stage productions. As a theatre practices H. Hotkevych was a creator of two unique dramatic groups the Worker’s Theatre in Kharkiv (1903-1905) and the Hutsul Theatre (1909-1912) in Halitchyna, which were the first in Ukraine, respectively. Activities of the theatrical collectives directed by H. Hotkevych can be regarded as a reflection of the idea of the whole generation of artists about the creation of a “really people’s theatre”. Hotkevych’s activity as a critic has been evaluated from the standpoint of the drama study, and his scientific works on the theatre history have been analysed for the first time. Based on analysing the theatrical heritage of H. Hotkevych in its entity with allowance for the tendencies in art, philosophy and aesthetics, his theatrical concept has been formulated, which is a reflection of a certain kind of the Ukrainian artistic culture at the turn of the 19-20 century.
