The research is an attempt to apply modern methodological approaches of philosophical comprehension of culture to one of the remarkable phenomena of the contemporary Ukrainian art, which is non-figurative painting of 90s of XX century.
Methodological basis of the dissertation is culturological approach, whose integrational resources allow to consider the phenomenon in totality of its external and internal links, combine “objective” and “subjective” approaches for comprehension and study of culture, conduct a philosophical and theoretical analysis of empirical research data.
Non-figurative painting in Ukraine of 90s of XX century is considered by the author as a modern stage of the development of world tradition of abstractionism. Because of this, one of the chapters of the dissertation is dedicated to systematic examination of abstract art tradition in historic and theoretical aspects. For that, a number of fundamental works of foreign researchers of the abstraction was introduced into depositary of Ukrainian science, namely, the studies of D. Anfam, A. Barr, M. Fried, S. Gilbo, C. Greenberg, A. Mozhynska, A. Nakov, G. Read, G. Rosenberg, B. Rose, M. Rzepinska, I. Sandler, M. Seifor, M. Schapiro and others.
Empirical research of creative approaches of Ukrainian non-figurative artists helped to determine general aesthetic, artistic, and socio-cultural features of the phenomenon, among which - non-figurative art as aesthetic idea and artistic characteristic, link with Absolute as the central idea of creative concept, individualism of approach, assimilation of some ideas of classical European aesthetics, attention to philosophical and artistic traditions of the East, “elitist” social status.
In the framework of complex theoretical analysis of the phenomenon of the Ukrainian non-figurative art of 90s of the XX century, the essential characteristics were considered in the focus of the systemic notion about abstractionism tradition. That allowed to make inference about originative and integrative character of the Ukrainian non-figurative art.
Furthermore, from the point of view of the existing analogy, a comparative cultural analysis of the Ukrainian non-figurative paintings of 90s and American abstract expressionism of 40-50s of XX century was made. The analysis showed that though there is a number of similar features, it is not expedient to make direct cultural parallels between the two cultural and artistic phenomena.
The study of the basic characteristics of the Ukrainian non-figurative art of 90s of ХХ century through the prism of the modern theoretical concepts of modernism in art brought to light expressively modernistic character of the aesthetic of the phenomenon of the modern Ukrainian artistic culture. At the same time, the conducted content analysis and correlation of notions “modernism”, “avant-garde”, “post-modernism” provided author with ground to insist that it is not expedient to describe and interpret the modern Ukrainian non-figurative art from the point of view of theoretical concepts of “avant-garde” and “post-modernism”.
The materials and conclusions of the research can be used in further research projects on the same problems, for training courses on cultural anthropology, aesthetics, history and theory of modern art, as well as for the purposes of meeting practical information needs of the modern artistic process. |
